How To Drive Targeted Traffic To Your Website

July 20, 2008 – 10:42 am

An affiliate marketer may have all the things needed for him to be able to succeed in a business such as affiliate marketing. He may have the necessary drive, diligence and perseverance to be able to understand how the system works. He may have all the tools necessary in maintaining the business, including a really unique and interesting website which could earn him a fortune if only the whole world could see it. However, all these would prove useless if he does not know how to drive traffic to his website. His business would sink into oblivion together with all the sales, fortune and dreams that he might have realized if he only knew how to do this particular task.

Getting people who matter to see one’s website is a difficult undertaking if he tries to consider the fact that there are rivals everywhere waiting to pin him down. The immensity of the internet as well as the affiliate marketing world has given birth to the fierce competition between affiliate marketers, each of whom has his own great product to offer. With all the websites piling on top of each other, how would one be able to stand out? The seven best ways to drive laser-targeted traffic to one’s own website would help those who are bent on sticking it out with this business wherever it is bound to take them.

The first step in driving traffic to one’s website is by relying on search engines and what they can do for the affiliate marketer concerned. Because they are popular for driving free targeted traffic, they should not be ignored by all means. Having top search engine rankings is vital in building popularity links, and the use of the right keywords is important in attaining this goal. Once a website is on top of the list, it is easily accessible to anyone who wants to see it for himself.

The second way in driving traffic to one’s website is by contacting other web masters for a possible link exchange partnership. Locating websites that are related to one’s own website is the primary task. Once there, he should be able to establish communication by personalizing everything as much as possible. It is then possible to make reciprocal link exchanges between web masters whichever way the affiliate marketer prefers.

The third way is through writing one’s own articles. This is an effective way in promoting a website, because good content that are appreciated by readers will lead them to visit the writer’s very own website out of sheer interest.

The fourth way is through joint venture marketing. This is one of the most effective ways of promoting a product or a service. Having a partner through ad swap or link exchange is beneficial to both parties as it allows them to reach a wide customer base in a short amount of time.

The fifth is through joining affiliate programs. Having affiliates to do the work means allowing them to bring tons of traffic to a website. Skyrocketing sales would be realized as a result, and both the affiliate and the website owner will benefit from the situation.

The sixth is by having a list of subscribers that one can refer to every so often, because they are those which would prove to be valuable assets for the marketer concerned. The use of auto-responders and personalized newsletters is one way of keeping track of them all, and holding on to them by letting them know about new products and services is an essential task that should be done by the affiliate marketer concerned.

The seventh is by knowing one’s market through and through. It is important for traffic to be targeted to those who might have a special interest in the theme or topic of one’s website. This way, a solid customer base is going to be created. Once a potential customer shows an interest in a particular website by paying it a visit, one must not waste time in trying to show him that his effort is worth it.

Traffic generating strategies are important in trying to make one’s affiliate marketing career inch forward. It is always advantageous to plan one’s moves in any business that he might undertake. This is particularly so in affiliate marketing. If one knows how to get people to see what he has to offer, then he is on the right track.

Flock, Fiefox 3 . . . more power for the the social networkers

June 24, 2008 – 6:40 am

Flock BrowserI’ve been Firefox for quite some time now…. in fact I’m using it for more than 3 years. Not that I totally dumped Internet Explorer since I design web sites for my self and you need to test a web page in IE as it’s actually used by the vast majority of internet users. And I did like the IE7 a lot.

 Recently I installed the Flock browser using it along with Firefox and Internet Explorer. I won’t use the word “switch” because I haven’t switched from Firefox to Flock, only added it to my arsenal. And Flock is an awesome browser. Simply brilliant. Since Flock is built on the same engine that runs Firefox (Gecko), the browsing experience is very much similar to Firefox. It’s like a powerful enhanced version of Firefox. But while Flock may initiate with the Gecko rendering engine, it considerably individualizes itself from Firefox by integrating features intended to facilitate you keep up with all your contacts in the social networking arena. That’s a huge plus for all Firefox lovers. Moreover most of the Firefox add-ons are good for Flock as well. So, you don’t have to worry about losing your favorite Firefox extensions.

So, what makes Flock to score over Firefox as the preferred browser even to the one Firefox fans?

Usability which results in saving a lot of time has made the browser that Flock is. Flock is built specifically for a new, emerging generation of Web users, one that isn’t satisfied passively browsing media online. Flock expects to transform the browser into a dashboard for collaborating, blogging, sharing photos, reveling in a raft of other Web 2.0 activities that have make the internet sizzling hot in recent times. Here’s a full review of the Flock browser.

But it’s only the beginning of what that’s going to change your browsing patterns for ever. The end user benefits as the war for excellence hots up. Firefox recently launched the all new Firefox 3. Added features and enhanced usability are the highlights of this brand new version of Firefox.

Is there any relation between Firefox and Flock apart being buit on the same engine ?

Flock is powered by Mozilla, the same fast and secure engine that powers the Firefox browser! Here’s the full story . . . .

Submit your web site’s Sitemap to Live.com

May 21, 2008 – 5:12 pm

Live.com Webmaster Central

This is the last post of the sitemap submission series. We are already through Google and Yahoo and now it’s Live.com (or MSN). The process is pretty much similar. If you have submitted your site’s sitemap to Google or Yahoo or both, you must have created the file sitemap.xml and it’s still there in the root directory of your site.

Before you do anything else just go to Live.com Webmaster Center and log in using your Live Mail or Hotmail Account and hit the ‘Add a site’ button.

Add your site to Live.com

When the page loads completely provide information like your web site’s url and the url or location of the site’s sitemap.xml. Please note here that this is not the regular site-map (generally sitemap.html) you used to have on your site but a specially generated xml file. You can have a sitemap.xml for your web site generated for free here - http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/

Submit the sitema.xml file

After you submit your site details, you need to verify or authenticate the web site which is pretty much like Google and Yahoo. Create a HTML file by copy and pasting the code provided in the page that loads on submission in Notepad and name the file as suggested. Here is an example -

Create and upload the Verification file

That’s it. You are done. Just hit the ‘OK’ button and you will get the confirmation that your site has been aded to Live.com Webmaster Center.

Site added to Live.com Webmaster Center

Submitting your sitemap and other site details to Google, Yahoo and Live.com is very important as it helps the search engine robots to index your site properly and hence help you achieve higher positions in the search engine result pages.

If you are on their mailing list you should have got the invitation to try this nice and cool free tool. So, what exactly this SSS does for you. It’s pretty easy to fill up the fields and submit your site details. And soon the system will send you an email containing the link to the result page. Here’s a few screenshots of the result page.

I must admit that I’m pretty impressed with the tool though it’s not ground breaking but still it’s very handy to have all information about your site in one place. Add your Site and Submit Sitemap to Yahoo and MSN

May 7, 2008 – 2:31 pm

Last week I showed you how to submit your site map to Google. This week I am going to show you how you can submit the same sitemap.xml to Yahoo and MSN or Live.com as it is now called. In both the cases what you are going to do is actually add your site to Yahoo and Live.com and submit your site map to them. This is done to keep the search engines informed about your site updates. Please note that this isn’t what is commonly referred to as search engine submission. It’s important for SEO that you add your site and submit your site map even if you are already indexed by Yahoo and MSN ( and Google ). Let’s start with Yahoo. But here is a prerequisite for both Yahoo and Live.com - you need to have accounts with both of them. If you don’t have a Yahoo Mail and Hotmail or Live.com Mail ID you can get those for free almost instantly.Step 1: Open your browser and navigate to the Yahoo Explorer site. Here’s the URL - http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/

Step 2: Notice the My Sites box on the right. Enter your web site’s URL and hit the Add My Site button.

Step 3: You will be prompted to login to Yahoo.

Step 4: You will be taken to a page which is kinda dashboard where you will find all the sites you have submit or will submit. Check the site you wanted to add and hit Manage.

Step 5: Hope you have already created and uploaded your sitemap.xml . Simply type sitemap.xml in the field provided and keep the sitemap type as Web Site Feed (from the drop down box). And click the Add Your Feed button.

Remember we are yet to authenticate our website, which will be the next step.

Step 6: Hit the green Authenticate button on the right when then page loads.

Step 7: The Verification page that comes up is very comprehensive and need no explanation. Just follow the steps and you will authenticate your site without any trouble. Download the verification file (you can also create it), upload to your server and hit the Ready to Authenticate button and you are done. You can also choose the Meta Tag method which is very similar to Google.

Step 8: Your site is pending authentication.

Do not remove the verification file from your server or delete the Meta Tag (should you opted for the Meta Tag method) and check back a couple of days later. Your site would be authenticated and will be indexed and get exposer in a far better way.

How to submit your sitemap to Google, Yahoo and Live.com

April 27, 2008 – 8:34 am

For better indexing and thus higher ranking of your web site you should always submit your site map to Google, yahoo and MSN (live.com). It’s not the regular html site map on your website rather it’s an xml file universally named as sitemap.xml. You can create it yourself or even better you can get it generated for free at XML-Sitemaps. After you have created the sitemap download / copy it and save it to your local hard drive and upload it to your web site root ( normally public_html). To check you have uploaded it properly type http://www.yourwebsiteurl.com/sitemap.xml . if it loads properly you are ready to proceed to the next step.

Firstly, open up the following sites in 3 different tabs of your browser (Firefox and Internet Explorer 7 supports tab browsing. however it’s not a criteria and you can do it by opening new windows or just do one by one on the same window).

Login or sign up if you don’t have an account already. First we will learn to submit the site map to Google.

Google Webmaster Tools

Step #1 - Add your site

Add your site to Google

Step #2 - Click Verify your site when the next page loads.

verify your site

Step #3 - You have to choose the verification method to verify your site. You have two options - you can verify by inserting a META tag or by uploading a blank file.

choose the verification method

First, let’s see how the META tag works -

META Tag verification

Insert the Meta tag in your site’s Home page source code as it is. Don’t change anything, just copy and paste the code between the head tags. Note the Meta tag just below the Meta keywords tag.

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC “-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN” “http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd”>
<html xmlns=”http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml”>
<head>
<meta http-equiv=”Content-Type” content=”text/html; charset=utf-8″ />
<title>Title of your site goes here</title>
<meta name=”description” content=”Give a cool description of your site here.” />
<meta name=”keywords” content=”keyword 1, keyword 2, keyword 3″ /><meta name=”verify-v1″ content=”9tW7D7+GgFDxvZKbaRFcqFlNOETT0NZ+8ehKmg48BY8=” />

<link href=”style.css” rel=”stylesheet” type=”text/css” />
<link rel=”shortcut icon” href=”images/favicon.ico”>

</head>

Save, Upload and Verify.

But, I prefer the File Upload method as described below.

Select the “Upload an HTML file” option instead of the earlier “Add a Meta Tag” from the drop down menu.

Upload HTML file verification method

Create a blank HTML file and name it exactly as suggested by Google. To create a HTML file right click on your desktop or on the white space inside a folder and select New. Then select “Text Document” from the sub menu to create a text document. Rename the text document by replacing New Text Document.txt by the name provided by Google (for example, googleabCDEFgh12345IJKL67890m.html). An alert will pop up asking you whether you really want to rename the file. Hit Yes. And voila, your HTML file is ready to upload to your sever. Upload it to your root directory and first verify if it is really there by clicking the link provided. A blank page is what you are going to see but if you follow the address bar you will notice that url you just clicked a second back. If you have done something wrong the browser will return the “The webpage cannot be found” message.

Once you are satisfied, hit the Verify button.

your site is verified

Congratulations. You have successfully verified your site. Now proceed to upload your sitemap. Hope you have already created one and uploaded it to your server.

Step #4 - Now click the Sitemap menu from the left sidebar. Now click the Add a Sitemap link on the page which just loaded.

Step #5 - Choose your sitemap type as Add General Web Sitemap

Step #6 - You will now be prompted to add your sitemap. Just complete your Sitemap URL by typing sitemap.xml in the blank field. And hit the Add General Web Sitemap button.

sitemap has been added to Google
Congratulations again. You have just added your sitemap to the Google. You can now expect better indexing of your pages.

Coming up next . . . how to add your sitemap to yahoo and MSN or Live.com.

Stay tuned.

Web Promotion Revisited - Part I

January 5, 2008 – 10:41 am
When you are looking to make from your web sites or blog, everything boils down to one single factor. Traffic. I mean web traffic. Do you have enough web traffic or you don’t - that’s the key question every web site owner and blogger should ask themselves. And if you are looking for free traffic you need to follow some simple and a few not so simple guidelines.

If you are not a complete newbie in the internet marketing arena you should have known by now that the in order to get free traffic you have to depend on the search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN or Live.com. Search engines crawl your sites and index them. whenever a searcher searches search for a topic by typing one of the keywords around which we have created your web site or blog, the search engine returns with several search result. You goal is to be among the top 10 of those search results. Easier said than done. But you can do it. Yes, with sincere effort you can beat all your competitors to the first page of any search engine, if not achieve the top position. It depends on your targeted keywords, your contents and whether you have optimized your web site for the search engines. SEO is vital. It’s the backbone of free organic traffic.

You have to make sure that your web site or blog is optimized. You need both on-page and off-page SEO for all your web pages and blog posts. Selection of keywords and using them effectively throughout your web pages - that’s on-page optimization for you in a nutshell. You should utilize your web page meta tags to the fullest extent especially the Title tag and the Description tag. Your main content should also contain your keywords and key-phrases you are targeting. The search engine spider follows a typical pattern when it crawls your web pages. You should design your web site to take full advantage of it.

Web Promotion and Internet in 2008

January 1, 2008 – 6:40 am
A Very Happy New Year 2008.

Best wishes for the new year. May 2008 be your most successful year online.

So, how are things going to be in the year 2008 for you ? Well, the answer is simple - the way you want it to be. Stay informed, get organized, do what you need to do and you will be on top.

Those of you who are yet to start their internet marketing endeavor, it’s time you actually get active. reading loads of ebooks won’t make you money, a little effort from your part will. Yes, you will make mistake. and you will learn from those mistakes. You will learn like no ebook could teach you ever. So, let the ball roll. The simplest ( and cheapest ) way to start ? Blogs. You can just sign up to www.blogspot.com or www.wordpress.com and begin your journey.

Facebook was one of the undisputable winners in 2007 along with iphones and some other things. Predictions are that in 2008 Facebook might go public. Or there be an acquisition.  In 2008 Google may come up with more surprises stepping into new areas. The online video sharing sites like You Tube will continue to dominate as will the social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace. And blogging. Blogging could only grow and there will be more blogging stars in the internet marketing horizon and more and more people are going to make more and more money from their blogs.

Lastly, web promotion. Will there be a change ? The core will remain the same. There will be hardly any alternative to directory submission, article marketing through article submissions, social bookarking. In fact, social bookmarking, which is already a powerful back link provider, might just find more and more takers in 2008. Yes, I am sue there will be some improvisations and a few innovations in this field that might just surprise us.

Before I say good bye, I  wonder if you are already aware of Google GPhone ? GPhone doesn’t exist. But Android does. Android is getting ready and could it be the star of 2008 ? Watch the video below. To learn more you can visit http://code.google.com/android/

Again, a very happy and prosperous new year 2008.

See you soon.

KaBoom - Web Promotion, the social bookmarking way

December 29, 2007 – 9:29 am
I have always believed that social bookmarking sites are excellent sources for quality back links as well as targeted traffic. As a web site owner you should always look for social bookmarking your sites and join communities that practice social bookmarking among themselves. This is often referred to as ‘giving love to web sites’ or simply ‘loving the web sites’, terms coined by well known Australian internet marketing expert Ed Dale ( Stompernet, Thirty Day Challenge, Dominiche, Immediate Edge etc. etc. ).

Today I’ll introduce you to a paid Social Bookmarking community membership web site called Ka Boom Marketing - ka-boom-marketing.com. The promoters of this site, Camilla Ricketts and Sarah Harris are personally known to me and I’m telling you they know exactly what they are doing.  KaBoom, the social tagging network they started, has been just launched a few days back. They have already sent emails out to their lists and did some other no-hype promotions as well. They’re planning on starting the tagging from next week onwards. And guess what, KaBoom has gotten quite a few sign ups already.

The promoters claim that yes, the traffic will be totally targeted, it uses the bookmarking techniques as recommended by Ed Dale in thirtydaychallenge.com , just on a grander scale, and simplified and organized. The system has been streamlined to be able to do all of your tagging in under one hour. With only 50 members and 16 social bookmarking sites to post to, it is possible to acquire something like 800 tags. At this point of time you can submit 1 web site every week for Ka Booming. The 16 social bookmarking sites include Facebook, Twitter, Soup, Propeller, Yahoo, Technorati, Furl, Newsvine, Stumble, Delicious, Digg, Reddit, Google.com, Clipmarks, My Jeeves and Friendster. more sites like Slashdot etc. will be added in the network.

I thought, it’s a great idea in itself to get the social bookmarking activity organized and offer it in a professionally and Ka Boom just might be on the right track. So, do consider to join the Ka Boom Marketing network should you wish to have huge number of quality back links and targeted traffic to your web site.
