Increase Traffic Website – That’s what your website should be like

August 5, 2008 – 6:01 am

Try increase traffic to your website because that’s the lifeline of your online business – that’s what every internet marketer would tell you to do and believe me . . . . they can’t be more right. Well, I mean, it’s obvious. Think of a store without any customer or a mall with only a few footfalls; that would mean end of the story for them. It’s true for a website as well. How you like to have a website with only a handful of traffic, may be only 10 to 12 a day or even a week.  With that traffic you aren’t going anywhere for sure. Unfortunately hundreds of thousands of web sites on the internet are ailing from this disease.  If you are newbie, I’m not trying to discourage you. On the contrary I encourage you to start building and steadily try to increase traffic for your website.

There are quite a few tactics and strategies that you may adopt to increase traffic to websites. But wait a minute; before I go into that I would like to ask you one question. What’s your website about? By the way, we would only focus on web sites that are built primarily to earn money from the internet. Business websites of commercial companies especially those who deal in physical products and only use their site to provide information and customer care to their customers are beyond the scope of this article. I am not suggesting that they don’t need traffic. In fact more and brick and mortar real world companies are showing interest to use the internet like never before.  But that’s another story.

Now, back to the question I asked you – what your site is about. And why did you create it at all? What’s the purpose, what do you expect from your site? Sadly, even though you built your site following your hobby or interest it might not be the one the market is interested about. And if the market isn’t interested then you are left with a vey few or no traffic to your website. Did you bother to check if your topic has a market at all?  Did you do the market research? Did I say market research? Please highlight it with a marker – market research. This is perhaps the most important thing that you should do or should have done to build traffic or increase traffic for your website. This is what you are required to do to make your site look like an “increase traffic website”.

Market research is the most important and the foremost step that we mandatorily need to carry out before any thing else in order to build a consistent flow of traffic later on. The market will tell you if there is any kind of interest or buzz for your topic. And, guess what, most of the time you will find that the interest is so much that already it has attracted thousands of others who already have their sites up and running and the competition is fierce. Again, I’m not trying to scare you away from competition. Competition is good as it shows that a particular market has strength to attract entrepreneurs and more significantly has sizable traffic. But if you are relatively new to online business, it is highly recommended that you should stay away from competitive markets, unless, of course, you manage to find a profitable niche* in that market. And that’s what you should exactly do. If you are interested in a market (dating? weight loss?), try finding a less competitive niche inside that market. And you have taken your first step towards driving traffic to your site and increase it gradually.

By the way, did you join this year Thirty Day Challenge? If not, go and join right now. Read my last blog post about the 30DC or TDC, whichever way you like to call it. They have just released an awesome market research tool and you can try it for 40 days without paying anything. It’s free for the Thirty Day Challengers. It’s called Market Samurai. I am using it and I know how precise the results are. I rank #1 for a couple of niches in Google and I can tell you that the Market Samurai’s results are amazing. F you aren’t using it yet, you are losing something.

* A niche market is a focused targetable portion (subset) of a market.

By definition, then, a business that focuses on a niche market is addressing a need for a product or service that is not being addressed by mainstream providers. A niche market may be thought of as a narrowly defined group of potential customers.

A distinct niche market usually evolves when a potential demand for a product or service is not met by any supply, or when a new demand arises due to changes in society, technology, or the general environment.

Niche market ventures may become profitable even though they are by nature small in comparison to the mainstream marketplace, due to the benefits of specialization and focus on small identifiable market segments; even without the benefit of economy of scale. Niche markets may be ignored or discounted by large businesses due to what they consider to be small potential; this in turn is part of the process that makes the niche market available to smaller businesses. The key to capitalizing on a niche market is to find or develop a market niche that has customers who are accessible, that is growing fast enough, and that is not owned by one established vendor already.  ( Source :  Wikipedia )
